The Foundry Community Rowing and Sailing Center, in partnership with Destination Cleveland, are pleased to welcome Dr. John Hartig, a Fulbright Scholar whose research focuses on cleanup of the Great Lakes. Hartig will delve into how public outcry over the 1969 Cuyahoga river fire catalyzed river cleanup locally and nationally, and helped to revitalize the Flats. The talk on the 50th anniversary of the final Cuyahoga River fire is free, but you must register.

Burning River Lighted Boat Parade

Decorate your boats and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the last Cuyahoga River fire with a boat parade from Whiskey Island to Merwin's Wharf.  There will be prizes for each of three vessel size classes (20-30 feet, 30-40 feet, and more than 40 feet). Judging will be based on uniqueness, attention to sub-theme, and overall presentation. Winners will be announced by VHF Radio at the end of Parade and notified by the email address provided. The free Cuyahoga 50 at North Coast Harbor event takes place on both the Rock Hall and Science Center campuses. We will have live music, interactive activities and several environmentally focused organizations. About 3,000 rowers are coming to Cleveland for the Head of the Cuyahoga, one of the biggest rowing regattas in the country, held at the Cleveland Rowing Foundation. Spectators can watch the 24th annual event from Rivergate Park.

Celebrate clean water and 50 years since the final Cuyahoga River fire with the annual Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Open House. Tour a treatment plant, check out the laboratory, meet Wally the Waterdrop, step inside a sewer simulator, visit more than 60 exhibitor booths, meet our employees and local partners and see live entertainment. They call it the No. 1 event in the No. 2 business.
