Sailor’s delight: Lake Erie marine forecast Sept. 27-29

This weekend is looking fantastic for the J/70 North American Sailing Championships on Lake Erie. Sun and lots of wind, without monstrous waves.

The Lake Erie water temperature is 71 off Toledo and 71 off Cleveland, according to the nearshore marine forecast.

Here’s the National Weather Service marine forecast, from Avon Point to Willowick.

Friday: South wind 10 to 12 knots. Increasing clouds. Waves around 1 foot. High of 78.

Friday night: South wind 13 to 16 knots. A slight chance of showers after 2 a.m. Waves around 2 feet. Low of 71.

Saturday: South-southwest wind 9 to 12 knots becoming west in the afternoon. A chance of showers, mainly after 7 a.m. Waves around 2 feet. High of 76.

Saturday night: North-northeast wind around 10 knots. A chance of showers before 2 a.m. Waves around 2 feet. Low of 66.

Sunday: East-northeast wind 10 to 12 knots. Partly sunny. Waves around 2 feet. High of 73.

Sunday night: East wind 8 to 12 knots becoming southeast after midnight. Partly cloudy. Waves 1 to 2 feet. Low of 68.
