Lake Erie’s Crystal Beach ranks among the 50 best beaches in North America, and the top 400 beaches in the world, according to 1,000 travel professionals and the website Flightnetwork.com

The Canadian beach, across the U.S. border from Buffalo, near Fort Erie, Ontario, ranks No. 39 in North America. The spot gets praise for “flawless white sand” and a “touch of luxury.” It gets a 7 out of 10 for “Sheer Untouched Beauty” and an 8 out of 10 for water and sand quality.

“Crystal Beach on Lake Erie is your Caribbean escape in the north! This stunning beach features flawless white sands and crystal-blue waters that will whisk you away to a Caribbean mindset, all the while staying in Canada…. Crystal Beach also features all kinds of creature comforts like boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, art galleries, bars, and yoga studios.”

The North America list is heavy with exotic locales like Hawaii and Mexico, curated from input from journalists, bloggers and travel agencies.

Only one other beach — Lion’s Head Beach on Lake Huron, also in Ontario — makes the cut.

“A quaint, family-friendly beach, Lionโ€™s Head causes time to slow in all the right ways,” the website says. “Located in a protected bay in Ontarioโ€™s Lake Huron, the water is mellow and safe for swimmers.”

Crystal Beach has a boat launch, playground, picnic pavilion, bathrooms and free parking. In case you’re planning a roadtrip, it’s a 3 hours, 20 minute drive from Cleveland.
