The Cleveland Boat Show has a new name — the Cleveland Boat Show.
For years, the annual January boat show at the I-X Center hosted by the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association was officially known as the Mid-America Boat Show. But no one really called it that.
So new association President Michelle Burke announced Tuesday the show will revert to its original name.
“What’s in a name? The Mid-America name had its time and place in the history of the boat show here in Cleveland,” Burke wrote in an email.
Association President Emeritus Norm Shultz told Burke he created the Mid-America Boat Show name to make the Cleveland show a big deal, back in the day.
“What I saw coming in as the new head of LEMTA was that everyone already called it ‘The Cleveland Boat Show,’ and Cleveland is awesome!” Burke said. “So let’s celebrate that. ”
Progressive Insurance remains the title sponsor.
