The weather outside is frightful. But Lake Erie can still be delightful in December — especially if you’re viewing it from a roaring fire.

So snuggle up with your sweetie, ignore the shopping list for a weekend (or at least an evening) and head to Ohio’s North Coast for a relaxing, romantic break from the holiday hubbub.

You can sip some bubbly, watch the waves, and marvel at the wonders of the season. Maybe even take advantage of a quiet moment to exchange the perfect gift. And walk hand-in-hand on a vacant beach.

Romance the Lake is a collaborative series between RocktheLake and  Peter & Co. Jewelers in Avon Lake.  Because Lake Erie not only rocks, it romances.

Lakeside Chautauqua Christmas: Stroll the quaint streets of Lakeside Chautauqua and share a kiss in the gazebo.

Red Fern Inn at Rocky Point Winery, Marblehead: The inn in the historic Marblehead Schoolhouse building is a cozy escape in the village downtown, surrounded by adorable shops and down the road from the picturesque lighthouse.

Nautica Queen: Friday and Saturday nights, savor a lavish buffet and then on a heated, enclosed decks while cruising past the lights of Cleveland’s spectacular skyline. There’s even a New Year’s Eve (and Noon Year’s Eve) cruise.

Hilton Cleveland Downtown: Great views of the lake from rooftop Bar 32, or the grassy Mall outside the hotel. Plus take in the Christmas wonderland at nearby Public Square.

Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake:  Share in the magic with an intricate gingerbread house displayed in the lobby this December. Enjoy a candlelit buffet overlooking the lake at the Horizons restaurant Dec. 24 and 25. There’s even an indoor pool overlooking the lake.
