Dreaming of living by the beach? Yeah, me too. Which is why my family moved to Rocky River.
I love searching for beach glass on a Saturday morning, while my dog splashes and shakes on the beach. I love paddling my kids on a stand-up paddleboard, watching the boats cruise in and out of the Rocky River. I love running by Lake Erie year-round. It’s just peaceful.
For everyone who wants a lake lifestyle, the listmaker website WalletHub has calculated the best beach towns in America to live in. Rocky River is 13th. Next door, Bay Village ranked even better, at No. 8. And Vermilion came in at No. 24.
That’s in the lake division, for cities with populations between 10,000 and 250,000. Ocean towns are calculated separately. All were judged for the aspects that made them great places to live, rather than vacation. (So you don’t need a boardwalk or amusement park to score well.)
Both west side Cleveland suburbs, both Bay Village and Rocky River boast good schools, public parks on the lake, charming family festivals and quaint centers of town. Both stand up well in Cleveland Magazine’s annual Rating of the Suburbs.
WalletHub compared 205 American cities, based on:
- Education and health
- Quality of life
