Ready to kayak Lake Erie? Here’s where you can rent the boats and paddles. (John Kuntz,

On a kayak, you ride inches above Lake Erie, paddling with your own power. On a placid day, the experience is serene, meditative, as you take in the scenery or wildlife. On a rougher day, it’s a thrill ride, up and down through the waves.

Kayaking is the most popular form of paddling, increasing from 3 percent of Americans participating in 2010 to 4.4 percent in 2014, according to the national Physical Activity Council. That’s 13 million kayakers.
Don’t own your own kayak? There are lots of spots around Lake Erie where you can rent them. (Generally, kids younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.)
Make sure to check the weather before you go out, and have an understanding of geography. Plus, always wear your life jacket and bring a marine radio or cell phone.
Here’s where you can rent kayaks, from west to east across Ohio.
