What does Lake Erie look in a deep freeze?

About half the lake is iced over, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. And a few of our favorite Instagrammers have captured gorgeous shots of the ice dunes and ice chunks and icicles.

You can enjoy all these from the comfort of your couch (maybe wrapped up in a blanket, sipping hot chocolate). Stay toasty!

Check out the ice chunks at Lake Metroparks’ Lake Erie Bluffs.

Freighters are still shipping goods, at least until the Soo Locks close Jan. 15.

The ice turns everyday objects into fantastic creations.

Here’s a shot of the North Coast, where the Rocky River meets the lake.

And one of the Fairport Harbor lighthouse.

More and more ice.

Look at that blue from the air!

The few hardy souls at Ohio State University’s Stone Lab, on Gibraltar Island in the harbor of Put-in-Bay, put a hockey net out on the ice.

You can see a live feed here. And here’s a shot from the public art project Waiting for a Break.
