Lake Erie marine forecast: Dec. 8-10

Lake Erie, shown by satellite Dec. 7. (NOAA)

Lake Erie is bringing the east side of Cleveland its first taste of lake-effect snow this weekend.

And until about 10 a.m. Saturday, the lake will be kicking up some big waves. (Anyone going out surfing?)

Anglers with smaller water craft will want to stay within the breakwall until 10 a.m., as winds from 15 to 20 knots will gust up to 30 mph at times.

Saturday after 10 a.m., as long as you’re not worried about some snow, conditions should be calm enough to head out farther.

If you had to choose just one day to get out on the water this weekend, I’d go for Sunday as some sun may peek out behind clouds, and precipitation chances are at a minimum before a chance of snow returning on Monday. So good news for the planned Santa Paddle!
